WOLF is no longer available
WOLF was permanently shut down on 1 February 2021.
Prior to this, all teaching
was moved to Canvas during the project to implement Canvas as the University's VLE.
Since 1 October 2020, when notification was given that WOLF would be shut down after 31 January 2021, all
non learning and teaching activities should have been migrated by their
respective owners to Microsoft Teams or, alternatively, archived by the owners (as applicable).
Tutor FAQs
- I need some materials that were on WOLF. Can I get them back?
- No, this is not possible. Advance warnings were provided, and there have been messages on WOLF
about the shutdown for several months - both on the login screen, and
permanently in the banner, and there was liaison with active WOLF users and advice available on moving content out of WOLF from Digital Services through the Teams project throughout the autumn term.
- Nobody told me WOLF was being shut down!
- There have been messages on WOLF
about the shutdown for several months - both on the login screen, and
permanently in the banner. If WOLF has been logged into since October 2020, these messages will have been displayed to active users.
- Why was WOLF shut down?
- WOLF was the University's Virtual Learning Environment from 1999 until the implementation of Canvas in 2016-2017. Development on WOLF ceased in 2014, as the University evaluated its VLE options. Some of WOLF's functionality provided opportunity to create structured document repositories with discussion and collaboration - this was used for learning and teaching but also non learning and teaching purposes. The move to Canvas enabled migration of all learning and teaching related content to Canvas. For non learning and teaching content, this continued to be used in WOLF but once Microsoft Teams was rolled out to the University this functionality within WOLF was no longer required, as Teams provides equivalent and more.
Student FAQs
- I can no longer see courses I studied on WOLF prior to 2016/17. Can I get them back?
- No, this is not possible. Canvas is the University's online learning environment, and all active course materials were moved to Canvas in 2016-17 by the tutors who own and maintain the content. Archived modules are no longer available to view now that WOLF has been switched off.
